Source of Northwest Indian Art Comes From Designs Inherent in Nature

The weathered beach driftwood logs here often have designs in them very reminiscent of the totem poles later carved causing me to think the inspiraton for much that would be the Haida or Tlingit or orther coastal tribal art is inspired by the very shapes nature takes on, which in turn are the shapes the Tao (The interplay of the elements) caused in the first place. That's why I find Native American art especially attractive and illustrative.
