Kunisada (1786-1864) This is recarved 1930s - Muller Collection. Courtesan Trimming Lamp - Series: Customs of the Passing Years. Comments- A very early Kunisada design, before 1813, which he used again with variation in 1920. This reproduction again varies the theme and adds the two suggestive tea cups.

This teahouse, constructed in 2001, is based on the design of Sa-an in the Daitoku-ji complex in Kyoto. Tea and the accompanying ceremony became an important part of the cultural aesthetic of Japan from the time it was brought over from China. Elegant gardens and architecture were influenced by this practice, as people would gather at such places to enjoy tea.
