Patrick Hamilton
Exhibiting in Earlsfort Terrace
Born 1974 in Leuven (BEL)
Lives and works in Santiago (CHL)
Hamilton interweaves elements of design, art and publicity, using resources that range from painting to urban intervention, photography, objects, and installations. He is most interested in analysing the diffuse relationships that occur between publicity and violence, work and leisure, cosmetics and power. He looks at how these correspond to certain processes of ‘cultural cosmetisation’ characteristic of societies of consumption in general, and of Chilean society in particular. His work has been shown in various solo and group exhibitions internationally these include the Museum of Contemporary Art, Santiago, Chile 2010, and the National Museum of Contemporary Art, Seoul, Korea 2005. Hamilton took part in the XIV Sao Paulo Biennial; VIII and X Havana Biennials; 2nd Canary Island Biennial, Spain 2009, the End of the World Biennial in Ushuaia 2007, II Prague Biennial 2005 and II Mercosur Biennial 1999, among others. In 2007 Hamilton won the Guggenheim Fellowship.
