Art Deco Cabinet. Serge Chermayeff, ca 1930
By accident I found myself in the Art Deco-Art Nouveau display at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in Richmond. Even though I'm not much interested in decorative arts, I became fascinated with the items on display.
Serge Chermayeff (1900-1996), a Russian designer active in England created this white gold leaf, wood and lacquer cabinet about 1930. It was made by Waring and Gillow (of London and Liverpool--1897-1985).

Springfield IL - Art Deco Entrance of the Illinois Building (2 of 2)
The Illinois Building, on the northeast corner of Adams and Sixth St. in downtown Springfield, is an outstanding commercial example of Art Deco design. The focus of this two-photograph series is on the building's main entrance of Adams St. Both photographs have been modified using the poster edges effect in Photoshop.

Oxo Tower: London art deco
The building was largely rebuilt to an Art Deco design by company architect Albert Moore between 1928 and 1929. The London County Council at the time did not look favourably upon illuminated advertisements and 'skysigns', especially so high and on the riverside. The initial proposal to spell out the company name in electric lights was refused, but when Moore came back with OXO, (at the time a subsidiary company of the Liebig empire) which he claimed was "an elemental geometric form" on all four sides of the building, the Oxo "sign" could no longer be classified as an advert.
